Stress Support
Milborne St Andrew
You may be coming to counselling feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel the way they do.
Stress may show up in different ways for different people, and often develops over time through various life experiences, pressures of daily life, or difficult periods.
When chronic stress overloads your nervous system, traditional task management isn’t enough. Therefore, my approach helps shift your awareness into the body to return to a state of calm safely.
Understanding chronic Stress
Stress naturally builds when life demands too much for too long. Consequently, it can leave you feeling constantly “on,” unable to switch off, and merely surviving the day without space to recover.
Even when life doesn’t feel chaotic in an obvious way, your system can still carry a heavy, silent load. Over time, this deep-seated pressure begins to impact your sleep, concentration and mood. Ultimately, it affects your ability to relax or remain fully present.
It is incredibly common to feel that your capacity to cope is more limited than those around you, which can easily lead to self-criticism or confusion. But the way we experience stress is deeply personal—shaped by our unique life experiences and the natural sensitivity of our individual nervous systems.
Ultimately, stress is your body’s gentle way of signalling that something needs attention before it develops into more persistent anxiety, low mood, or physical shutdown. It is a vital warning sign.
Instead of just talking about the pressure, we focus on mind and body-based support. By learning to listen to physical signals like muscle tension or breathing changes, you can safely release the built-up pressure that your mind cannot simply think away.
A somatic approach to healing
By introducing somatic awareness into our sessions, we work directly with your nervous system to process the internal pressure. Consequently, this allows your system to return to a natural state of calm regularly.
Together, we look at exactly what is contributing to your sense of overload. To do this, we focus on slowing things down to notice stressful patterns as they happen in real-time.
Our goal is to create an authentic sense of safety in your body. Therefore, we help your nervous system settle and recognise the difference between past survival patterns and what is safely happening right now.
Importantly, this happens entirely at your pace — not mine.
We work gently with whatever feels manageable for you by sitting with and listening to your physical experience moment by moment. As a result, you can find sustainable ways to feel more grounded and resourced day to day.
