This may show up in different ways for different people and often develops over time through life experiences.

If you are struggling to cope, anxiety therapy in Dorset can help you find a way forward.

Anxiety can feel like being constantly on alert, even when nothing is immediately wrong.

Your nervous system becomes overloaded, making it near on impossible to “just calm down”.   It is not just emotional—it is physical.

Symptoms of an Overloaded System

You might experience:
    • A racing mind that creates a cycle of negative thoughts.
    • A restless body that struggles to settle or feel at ease.
    • Brain fog that makes it hard to think clearly or make decisions.
    • Overwhelm from past experiences, behaviour patterns, or current stressors.
Anxiety may be a result of ongoing Stress, trauma and depression.

In our gentle, structured sessions, we work to get you out of these loops and back in control.

How We Work Together in Therapy
In counselling, we work with your nervous system rather than against it. Rather than trying to “think your way out” or push feelings away, we work gently with your body and mind at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.
This collaborative approach focuses on creating safety, slowing things down, and might involve:

  • Somatic awareness: Noticing how your body reacts in the moment and gently pausing when needed.
  • Grounding techniques: Using sensory tools to help you feel present, settled, and upright when things feel intense.
  • Curiosity, not judgement: Exploring what your reactions are communicating—such as threat, overwhelm, or protective “parts” of yourself.
Working this way helps your system settle and recognise the difference between past patterns of behaviour and trauma from the present moment. Over time, your nervous system becomes less overwhelmed, helping anxious responses feel less intense and giving you back a sense of steadiness and choice.
